OVERVIEW

‘RUNNING WITH SCISSORS’ is not just a design conference: it’s your playground!

In our UNESCO City of Design, we want to make the most of our three days together – so we’re making a few changes. Don’t worry, our old friend ‘the paper’ is still here – but we want to make new friends too. We’ve created some new opportunities to share and shape your work as designers and researchers: to give everyone the chance to play with what a design conference can be with:  Posters, Positioning Papers, Research Proposals, Workshops and Walks.

Involve us all in your live research. Use the international EAD community to explore new insights for your work through workshops, projects and outdoor adventures. Be provocative! Share your experience in the field and spark a debate. Show don’t tell: visualise your work and share its value.

The new and expanded range of formats in which design and associated research can be presented are a purposeful intervention to afford the community (as a collective) to consider three things:

  1. the nature and purpose of international research conferences, publications and networks in the future,
  2. how to nurture rich conversation(s) between the different contexts, cultures, forms, and phases of design and-or its research, and
  3. deep reflection on the expanding diversity of research permeating the modern design landscape

EAD2019 Dundee seeks to welcome new and old colleagues; to continue nurturing a dynamic relation between all levels of experience, from Emeritus Professors to PhDs, PostDocs to Directors of Research and Innovation, professional designers to academic researchers, newly awarded doctors to newly appointed professors; to celebrate the full spectrum of professional experience held across the network and emerging through its new knowledge.

Peer Review

EAD2019 is an international conference for the reporting and conduct of a wide variety of design from researchers, innovators, professional design services and service users. We invite a broad range of research and design projects at every stage of the journey. We encourage the highest standards of scholarship, seeking clarity in terms of context, explanation of methods, and the reporting of results and-or next stage(s) for the work.

Our aim is to support the design community in an enterprising manner and increase the quality of peer reviewing for EAD. All forms of submission, including full papers will be selected through a double-blind review process conducted by an international review panel. The review process for each sub-track of the conference will be managed separately by a sub-chair and their team who will oversee the peer review process for submissions. This will involve inviting and allocating reviewers, resolving any opposing reviews, and making recommendations to the overall EAD 2019 review committee. ConfTool is the primary tool for managing the submission and reviewing process.

Conference Presentations and Proceedings

Authors of accepted papers and all other submission formats are expected to attend and present their work at EAD2019 in Dundee.
All accepted papers will be published by Routledge, Taylor & Francis, with an ISBN.
